Late October Sports Card Drops: The License Split
Sports Drop Radar · Oct 21–30, 2026
The headline of the late October sports card drops is a license split. On October 21, 2026 Topps Heritage Football arrives with NFL team logos and 2026 rookies like Fernando Mendoza and Jadarian Price in their pro uniforms, while 2026 Panini Obsidian Football streets the same day with retired stars and college players and no NFL team names. 2025-26 Panini Select Basketball Hobby follows October 23 without NBA logos, and 2026 Panini Donruss Football lands October 28. If you can fund one football box in this window and you want pro rookies, buy Heritage. Buy the Panini boxes only if you actually collect legends or college players.
This radar picks up where our October 14 sports card drops left off and narrows the full October sports card drops calendar to the next ten days. Every date below comes from a manufacturer page or at least two hobby calendars, and the dates that moved are flagged. October 21: the license split in one day

2026 Topps Heritage Football
Topps’ Heritage Football hobby box page lists Available From October 21, 2026, with 20 packs of 8 cards and one autograph or relic card per box. The 400-card base set uses the 1976 Topps Football design for its 50th anniversary, and Checklist Insider notes the brand was last issued for the 2015 NFL season (Checklist Insider). The Value box shares the October 21 date, and the Mega box is listed for November 4.
The rookie class is the draw. Per the official checklist numbers collected by The CardBoard Report, base rookies include Jeremiyah Love #133, Fernando Mendoza #272, Ty Simpson #288, Carnell Tate #305 and Jadarian Price #393. Topps’ own Heritage Football collector guide highlights Heritage Rookie Autographs, Real One Rookie Autographs and Locker Room Autograph Relics.
On price, Checklist Insider lists Topps’ presale at $129.99 for Hobby, $49.99 for Mega and $24.99 for Value. Cardboard Connection says pre-release secondary prices have been around $180 or more for Hobby (Cardboard Connection). Those are asks before the street date, not sales.
Why it matters: This is the October 21 box where 2026 NFL rookies appear in their NFL uniforms, so it reaches the widest pool of buyers if you ever want to sell singles.

2026 Panini Obsidian Football
Obsidian returns after skipping 2025. Checklist Insider dates Hobby to October 21 and the online-only First Off the Line (FOTL) format to October 13. Each Hobby box is one 7-card pack averaging a patch autograph, another autograph, two relics, one insert and two base cards, 12 boxes to a case (Checklist Insider). Panini’s Obsidian Football hobby page carries the product.
The big change is the license. Beckett reports that because the exclusive NFL trading card license moved to Fanatics, the checklist centers on retired stars and college players, and the cards carry no official logos or team names (Beckett). That’s why the Julian Sayin card pictured here says Ohio State, and why names like Peyton Manning and Randy Moss sit alongside current college quarterbacks.
Why it matters: Obsidian is still a hit-heavy premium box, but you’re buying legends and college stars, not 2026 NFL rookies in their pro uniforms. Price it that way.

October 23: Select Basketball Hobby finally streets

2025-26 Panini Select Basketball
Select Hobby slid from the October 14 date many calendars carried. Checklist Insider now lists Hobby for October 23, with FOTL already out on October 14. Hobby boxes are 12 packs of 5 cards and average three autographs or relics (Checklist Insider). Product listings are on Panini’s Select Basketball page.
Checklist Insider calls this the first Select Basketball without NBA licensing. The checklist mixes current and retired NBA players with top rookies and college talent in airbrushed photos, so the Dirk Nowitzki card shown here reads Dallas with no team logo.
Why it matters: Select keeps its tiered Optichrome look, but the same logo question as Obsidian applies. Collect the player, not the uniform.

Also on October 23, Topps’ release calendar lists 2026 Topps Holiday Football, a licensed NFL product sold as a Mega box. On October 21 it lists 2026 Topps Holiday Baseball. Upper Deck’s Series One Hockey retail blasters and tins are listed for October 21 on retailer calendars, two weeks after the October 7 hobby street.
October 28–30: Donruss Football, Stature and the rest

2026 Panini Donruss Football
Checklist Insider dates Donruss Football to October 28 and says all pro cards are unlicensed after the NFL license went to Fanatics and Topps, with college cards taking a much bigger role. A Hobby box is 12 packs of 10 cards and averages one autograph, one relic, 12 parallels, six Optic base or parallels and 36 inserts (Checklist Insider). Panini lists it on its Donruss Football hobby page.
Why it matters: Donruss is the mass-market version of the same split. It’s a fun, insert-heavy rip, but don’t treat its pro cards like licensed rookie cards.

2025-26 Upper Deck Stature Hockey
Stature is now listed for October 28 by Checklist Insider and major retailers, a week after the October 21 date some calendars still show (Checklist Insider). Each box is one 5-card pack averaging one hit, two numbered parallels, one numbered rookie or legend and one veteran, 16 boxes to a case. Upper Deck’s Stature checklist has the 100-card base set: 50 veterans, 15 legends and 35 rookies.
Why it matters: Stature carries the NHL license, so hockey is the one sport here without a logo question. The only thing to check is the date.

- October 28 — 2026 Panini Crown Royale NWSL. Panini’s October 13 announcement says each Hobby box holds one autograph, two memorabilia cards, two base parallels and one insert, with Kaboom! inserts in the set. Panini calls itself the exclusive trading card partner of the NWSL, so this is a licensed Panini product. Checklist Insider and distributor listings date it to October 28 (Checklist Insider).
- October 28 — 2026 Topps Five Star Baseball. Topps’ Five Star page says boxes are available October 28 on EQL, so plan for an online drop, not a hobby-shop shelf.
- October 30 — 2026 Bowman U Best Football. Listed on Topps’ release calendar.
What moved
- Panini Impeccable WNBA: October 23 to November 4. Checklist Insider and Southern Hobby both list November 4 now (Checklist Insider).
- Upper Deck Stature Hockey: October 21 to October 28. Some store calendars still show the old date.
- Panini Select Basketball Hobby: October 14 to October 23. Only FOTL boxes came out October 14.
“Collect the player, not the uniform.”
Licensed or not: a buyer’s checklist
Bottom line
The late October sports card drops come down to one question: do you want 2026 NFL rookies in their pro uniforms? If yes, put your one football box on Topps Heritage Football on October 21. If you collect legends or college stars, Obsidian (October 21) and Donruss (October 28) are built for you. Just don’t pay a pro-rookie premium for cards with no team names. Select Basketball Hobby is October 23, Stature moved to October 28, and Impeccable WNBA moved to November 4.
